Nadia Erostarbe on a wave in Australia.
Guipuzcoana surfer Nadia Erostarbe has finished third in the Bonsoy Gold Coast tournament at Snapper Rocks in Queensland, Australia, and has been ranked among the top ten in the world, Basque Team reported in a statement.
Aritz Aranburu also qualified twice to compete in the Championship Tour, and in the 2009/2010 season he reached the semi-finals, beating Kelly Slater himself, eleven times the world champion, in Teahupoo.
In the first CT test this year, the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, it was ninth and in the second, the Western Australia Margaret River, seventeenth. However, Erostarbe, along with coach Guillermo Gutierrez, has been able to stay calm and continue to believe in surfing and its possibilities.
In the first round , Nadia scored 15.16 points, surpassing the American Alyssa Spencer, who accumulated 13.17 points. In the second round, she faced the American Caroline Marks, world champion in 2023 and Olympic gold.
But the best thing happened when we reached the quarter-finals, against Gabriela Bryan, number one in the world at the time. Erostarbe touched perfection. With a wave of 8.67, the highest note of the day, his surfing showed that he has that point of aggressiveness and control that judges value so much.
In the semifinals , Stephanie Gilmore was waiting for her. Nadia's career has been cut off by the great surfer, eight-time World Champion, after two years away from CT. Despite losing her turn, the Basque Team has signed the best wave in the series with a score of 8.50, but has not been able to complete the play with another good wave (5.73).
Gilmore has dominated Erostarbe with waves of 8 and 7 points (15 in total) and has also won the final against Luana Silva, achieving his seventh win in the Gold Coast and the 34th of his career.
For Erostarbe the result confirms the start of the historic season The Guipuzcoano not only climbs the podium, but enters the general at Top10
