The Swiss Mauro Schmid (Jayco AIUIA) has won the 13th stage ofthe Tour de France, with a journey of 205.8 kilometers between Dole and Belfort, reaching the finish line alongside the Colombian Harold Tejada (XDS Astana) who in a long escape has finally decided to sprint.
The Jayco cyclist has won his second win in a big lap, along with his win at the Giro de Italia in 2021.
On a day in which the Los Vosgos and the Ballon d'Alsace have played a leading role, Tejada has escaped from the group in which Schmid was in the lead and Tom Pidcock (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) has climbed to the podium of the overall ranking.
The long getaway of the day was made up of 60 runners with first-class names: Jasper Philipsen, Mads Pedersen, Biniam Girmay, Michael Valgren, Marc Hirschi, Julian Alaphilippe, Ben Healy, Alex Aranburu, Magnus Cort, Ion Izagirre or Pidcock himself, with nearly nine minutes ahead ofthe platoon.
In the historic Ballon d'Alsace, Pidcock has hardened the climb with several attacks and reduced the previous team to about ten runners, while the green jersey of Mads Peders (Lidl-Trek) has made a huge effort to score first in the intermediate sprint and then empty himself at the service of his team, trying to defend his position in the general Mattias Skjelmose.
On the descent to Belfort, Schmid and Tejada launched a final attack 16 kilometers from the finish line and opened an insurmountable gap for the pursuing team.
The UAE Team Emirates-XRG has been controlling the situation, and Lidl-Trek and Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe have worked together to limit losses, but it has not been enough for Pidcock to put an end to the great escape of the day and prevent him from climbing to the provisional podium of the Tour.
