Vingegaard struck after winning the second straight stage
The Dane has crossed the finish line with authority and alone, after attacking for 20 kilometers, and has almost sentenced the overall ranking of the French race.
The Danish Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma) Lease a Bike won the fifth stage of the Paris-Nice 2026 on Thursday, 206.3 kilometers, between Cormoranche-sur-Saône and Colombier-le-Vieux, attacking for 20 kilometers.
After several days of harsh weather conditions due to rain and low temperatures, the sun has risen again in the French race, and that is where the Danish, winner of the 2022 and 2023 Tour de France, has demonstrated his enormous ability to strengthen his leadership in Paris/Nice.
Movistar Team has put three runners on the run, Ivan Romeo, Jefferson Cepeda and Lorenzo Miles, in order to win the stage, but the Team Visma. Lease a Bike had a different goal and caught the runaway runners, even though the Spanish champion tried to leave again.
But in the absence of 21 kilometers, the fugitives have returned to the platoon, and a few minutes later the leader of the race has attacked to reach the finish line alone; second has been Valentin Paret-Peintre (Soudal Quick-Step) , more than two minutes away, and third has been Harold Tejada (XDS Astana Team) .
This Friday, thesixth stage will be played between Barbentane and Apt, with a journey of 179.3 km, and cyclists will have to climb two third-class ports and two second-class ports, one of which will be climbed in the absence of 4.5 km of finish.
