Vingegaard hit Uchon twice, and Ayuso fell and had to leave the race
The Danish cyclist is the new leader of the race after crossing the finish line alone in the fourth stage. Vingegaard attacked 1000 meters from the finish line and left behind Daniel Felipe Martinez and Tim Van Dijke.
Danish Jonas Vingegaard (Visma Lease a Bike) on the podium in Uchon.
The Danish Jonas Vingegaard (Visma Lease a Bike) is the new leader of Paris Nice after winning the fourth stage of 195 kilometers between Bourges and Uchon, while the Valencian Juan Ayuso has fallen and has been forced to leave the race.
A disgrace to Ayuso, because with the new Lidl Trek jersey a brilliant start to the season has been interrupted after winning the Return to the Algarve. The misfortune has cut off Ayuso's wings when he was flying, and now he will have to overcome the unexpected obstacle on his way to the Tour de France, the great goal of the year.
Lucky for Vingegaard, who has avoided the fall, and has been able to fight the stage victory with guaranteed leadership. His attack 1,000 meters from the finish line has allowed him to reach the top of Uchon alone, unanswered by his rivals, with a time of 4 hours, 16 minutes and 12 seconds, with an average of 45.7 kilometers per hour.
Vingegaard's attack has left behind the Colombian Daniel Felipe Martínez and the Dutch Tim Van Dijke, both cyclists from the Red Bull Bora team, a blow that has put the overall ranking on track for the 29-year-old Hillerslev cyclist, double winner of the Tour de France.
In the general, Vingegaard overtakes Daniel Felipe Martinez in 52 seconds and German Georg Steinhauser (EF Education) in 3:20. Amongthe top ten is Catalan Marc Soler (UAE) at 5:45 and Guipuzcoano Ion Izagirre (Cofidis) at 6:32.
The fifth stage has a tough ending.
The fifth stage will be played this Thursday between Cormoranche-sur-Saône and Colombier-le-Vieux, 206.3 km, the longest of this edition and with the highest positive level. The mountain stage has a hard end in the last stretch, uphill, but generally with soft slopes of 3%.
