His team has described the decision as exaggerated: "Wiebes has carried this bike many times this season, always with the same setup.
"In addition, earlier this year, UCI officials weighed the bike after several Wiebes sprint winning races, each time the bicycle weight was above the 6.8 kilogram limit," they said.
