Vollering shows off to win his first Giro in the final stage

The Dutchman Demi Vollering (FDJ United - Suez) won the 9th and final stage of the women's Giro, 145 km, with an attack on the last port that left his compatriot Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx) behind.

In the descent, Elisa Longo Borghini, Antonia Niedermaier and Niamh Fisher-Black have gained more than two minutes' lead, at which point Niedermaier (1:20 minutes) has become the virtual leader of the race.

Van der Breggen and Vollering reacted and helped each other until Vollering attacked on the climb to Brondello and held on well to capture the previous three and win the prize in the intermediate sprint, while Elisa Longo Borghinitook the stage victoryat the sprint.

Niedermaier, second, and Van der Breggen, third, completed the podium.
