Lorena Wiebes is the first female Giro leader
The Herbeeres cyclist won the first stage sprint ahead of Italians Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Yrek), Lara Gillespie (USA Team) and Chiara Consonni (CANYON-SRAM)
The Dutch LorenaWiebes (SD Worx-Protime) is the first female leader of the Giro de Italia after winning the stage between Cesenatico and Ravena (139 km) on Saturday.
Thus, Wiebes has won the127th win of his sports career in the sprint after being stronger than three Italian riders on the finish line : Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Yrek), Lara Gillespie (USA Team) and Chiara Consonni (CANYON-QUE).
After applying the bonuses, 27-year-old Wiebes, who has won six stage wins in the Giro, leads the race with 4 seconds ahead of Balsamo, second, and Gillespie, third.
This Sunday, the second of the nine stages, 156 kilometers, will run between Roncade and Caorle. Halfway through, the runners will have to climb a fourth tier port.
