The Euroleague cancels two encounters after the US and Israel attack Iran
The Euroleague has suspended the Hapoel Tel Aviv-Maccabi Tel Aviv and the Partizan-Dubai matches, corresponding to the 30th day of the competition, due to the 'situation in these regions' and the consequent 'inability to travel after the temporary closure of airspace', as announced today.
The main European competition has decided to suspend the two meetings scheduled for 5 March and will be subject in the coming days to the evolution of the conflict affecting the whole of the Middle East following the US-Israel attacks on Iran and the subsequent counter-attacks by Tehran.
"The Euroleague will consider the best options for reprogramming the matches with the teams concerned, closely monitoring the latest developments and maintaining permanent contact with local and international authorities and all relevant bodies to ensure the safety and well-being of all those involved. More information will be published in the coming days," he explained in a statement.
On 28 February, the United States, in cooperation with Israel, launched an attack on Iran, in which thesupreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei , and numerous Iranian military leaders were killed.
Tehran has promised to avenge the Ayatollah's death and has responded with air strikes against Israel and several Arab countries with Washington military bases.
