The Rayo-Athletic game will be played behind closed doors in Vallecas on 9 December

The Rayo Vallecanoand the Athletic Clubwill begin the eighth day ofthe EA Sports League on Wednesday, December 9 at 8:00 p.m.LaLiga reports in an official statement that the match will be played behind closed doors at the Vallecas Stadium, in compliance with the decision of the single judge of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on October 16, 2026.

Referee José María Sánchez Martínez suspended the match in the first partas paper planes and small plastic balls were thrown repeatedly onto the lawn, preventing the match from playing normally. These events occurred in the context of protests by Rayo supporters against the management of club president Raúl Martín Presa, where they have been demanding the president's departure for months.

The disciplinary decision has already established that the Madrid club shall bear the costs of the travel of the Athletic Club, and all registered footballers may participate in accordance with the regulations, regardless of whether or not they were on the field during the minutes in which they were played.
