Athletic disagrees with the appeal for dismissing the appeal against Yuri
The Athletic Club has sent a statement stating that it "does not share the reasons" for the inadmissibility of the appeal lodged by the Appeals Committee "on the basis of the official decision of the CTA", which has been filed to avoid the penalty for the red card that Yuri Berchich saw against Seville and for the defence to be able to contest today's match against Barcelona.
The club recalled that the analysis of the Technical Committee of Arbitrators published last Tuesday indicated that the action to expel the player had to be resolved with a "direct free throw without a card" and that "the VAR had to intervene" to correct the "clear and obvious error of the field referee."
'When the competent technical body considered the red card to be an arbitral error, we believe the Appeals Committee should have taken it into account in its final decision, 'the note says.
"The dismissal of the appeal filed by the Athletic Club has highlighted the contradiction between the official technical criterion and the disciplinary conclusion maintained, which has been based on a decision that has undoubtedly been considered wrong. There is no doubt, not even two equally plausible versions: it is an official technical statement that rejects the red card and expressly acknowledges the flagrant error.
Athletic regrets that "this means that the damage caused is twofold: first, because the Athletic Club had to play with one less player for most of the match against Seville; and now, because serving the additional suspension penalty of a match only causes the same error — which is already irreversible — to extend to a second day."
