Ion Izagirre wins at Marco Pantani Memorial
The Basque cyclist Ion Izagirre (Cofidis) won his second victory in the 2026 season, the last before retiring, after winning the23rd edition of the of the Marco Pantani Memorial.
Izagirre won the Miguel Indurain Grand Prixin April after three years of drought, with a total of 20 professional wins. The Ormaiztegi cyclist announced in December 2025 his intention to retire at the end of the season.
At the Marco Pantani Memorial, the platoon was to travel 191.6 kilometers between the towns of Riccione and Cesenatico. Izagirre has entered the good getaway of the day, the second attempt of the platoon to escape 82 kilometers to finish. In the absence of 78 kilometers, the Basque has entered among the cyclists who have responded to the attack by Michael Storer (Tudor).
Izagirre sprinted and crossed the finish banner in first place, second place was for Pellizzari and third place was for Mikkel Honore. Storer, who was defending the title, was fourth.
