Evenepoel and Paula Blasi have won the Amstel Gold Race
Belgian Remco Evenepoel has won the 60th edition of the Amstel Gold Race on a 257.2 kilometre journey between Maastricht and Valkenburg, beating Danish Mattias Skjelmose in the final sprint.
Evenepoel finished the test with a time of 5h.59.41 , at an average speed of 42.9 km/h. French Benoit Cosnefroy was third, leading the group that followed him, two minutes away.
At the beginning of the race there has been a long getaway, in which two Basque cyclists, Xabier Mikel Azparren and Joseba Lopez, have stood out. The platoon has caught them in the absence of 85 kilometers, at which point Evenepoel's team has tightened the pace, making a selection among the favorites.
In the final stretch, the attacks have been constant in the Cruisberg and Cauberg ports. Evenepoel has launched the attack several times and has ended up in the head with Skjelmos, leaving other favourites behind.
In the end, neither has managed to distance themselves in the final ascent to the Cauberg, and the victory has been decided in the sprint . Evenepoel has attacked 300 meters from the finish line and defeated Skjelmose to win the most important victory of the season.
Paula Blasi wins historic victory at Amstel Gold Race
Catalan cyclist Paula Blasi (UAE Team ADQ) won a historic victory this Sunday in the 12th edition of the women's Amstel Gold Race.
The 23-year-old cyclist (current European champion and third in the U-23 world championship) has escaped alone in the second climb to the Cauberg, 23 kilometers from the finish line, leaving behindthe Dutch Nienke Vinke (Team SD Worx - Protime) .
Favorites have tried to work on the team to catch Blasi, but the UAE cyclist has managed to cross the finish line with a time of 4:02:15 seconds, ahead of Polish Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon SRAM zondacrypto) and Dutch Demi Vollering (FDJ United-SUEZ).
