Del Toro has prevailed in the ascent to Cameroon to consolidate his leadership
The Mexican Isaac Del Toro (UAE) has won the Grand Prix of the Adriatic Tyrant in Cameroon after attacking in the final climb to the Wall della Madonna delle Carceri, leaving behind the American Matteo Jorgenson (Visma) and the Italian Giulio Pellizzari (BORA).
Except for surprises in the final stage, without too much difficulty, Del Toro will raise the "Trident" for the first time in his career, after a week of dominance, with a demonstration on the decisive day.
The Mexican cyclist has launched his final attack in 600 metres from the finish line, at the third climb to the Muro della Madonna delle Carceri, at an 8.8% rise, with ramps of up to 18%. He neutralized Pellizza's attempt first and then finished with a change of pace that left Jorgenson unanswered.
Del Toro crossed the finish line alone and increased his lead in the generalby 42 seconds to Pellizza eta 43 seconds to Jorgenson.
Gregor Mühlberge, Vincenzo Albanes, Clément Braz Afonso, Filippo Ganna, Walter Calzoni, Timo Kielichand Guillermo Thomas Silvamarked the day with a four-minute lead before the final climb.
The seventh and final stage will put an end to this Adriatic Tyrant between Civitanova Marche and San Benedetto del Tronto, an almost flat journey in which Del Toro will have the opportunity to defend leadership and confirm victory.
