The account of a police spokesman has revealed more details of what happened before the death of the Welsh cyclist in the Portuguese Volta.

In connection with the Finlay Tarling accident, the Portuguese Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation to determine how this vehicle entered the race route.
According to a police spokesman to the Portuguese channel RTP, the driver waited forthe platoon to pass and, having not seen any more cyclists, asked several spectatorswhether the road was free, apparently thinking that no more participants would pass, so the driver got thewrong answer, got into the route and soon after collided with Tarling.
The driver turned down alcohol and drug tests, and the jury ordered the cyclist's autopsy.
