Vingegaard will compete in the Giro and the Tour next season

The leader of the Visma-Lease a Bike, Jonas Vingegaard, will focus his calendar on the big  laps and, in addition to the Tour de France, will debut in the Giro de Italia next season.

"Apart from the fact that he has always wanted to run the atmosphere, we are convinced that it will benefit him for the Tour," explained the team's sports director, Grischa Niermann, in La Nucia (Alicante). Although the team plans to win in Italy, "the Tour remains our main objective, "he recalled.

"I've been thinking about running the Giro for a long time. It's one of the most important races on the calendar and one I've never done before," Vingegaard explained.

"Now I feel it's a perfect time. Winning the Round last fall motivates me even more to go for victory in Italy as well. I'd like to add pink maglia to my collection," he added.

So far, Vingegaard has won two wins and three seconds on the Tour de France. "Winning for the third time would be incredible. It will be difficult, but perhaps more exciting than the two previous editions," the Danish said in reference to the tour.

The cyclist has stressed that this year the decisive moments of the Tour will meet in the last week, which could reduce the time differences. "However, we will have to be prepared from the beginning for the time of the Barcelona team.We have done a lot of work in the discipline and it will be a special way to start the race, "he added.
