Celebration of Alex Goitia and Unai Lekerika after the judges' final decision.
Urreisti-Lopez and Goitia-Lekerika, the two leaders of the first phase group, have today faced each other in Gernika on the first day of the Eusko Label Winter Series semifinals. The second couple has won a valuable victory in three games (13-15, 15-10 and 4-5) with a controversial final that will give something to talk about.
The two couples finished the qualifying phase with 9 points, two wins and one defeat, and for the first time they have faced each other in semi-finals.
There has been a lack of rhythm at the start of the game and there have been many mistakes on both sides; Urreisti and Lopez have been superior in so many, but they have failed to finish because of the great defense of the Biscayans. In the absence of the game there has been excitement, with numerous ties until the end of the first game, in which Goitia and Lekerika have been more able to bend the marker in their favor (13-15).
In the second game, the Guipuzcoans have returned the blow to the Biscayan couple, not without much work and suffering. Mutriku's striker and Zumaia's zaguero have gained a good advantage at the end of the game thanks to a couple of gifts from Goitia. Markina-Xemein's striker has been temporarily disconnected from the game and the couple has paid dearly.
In the third gameof untie, Urreisti and Lopez have also started to command and put a 3-0 partial on their rivals, and then Lekerika has made a big two wall trying to react, but with 4-1 it seemed impossible. Lopez, however, has failed to put a ball in and Urreisti has made two consecutive mistakes that have put a 4-4 draw.
The last so much has been controversial, as the Guipuzcoans have claimed that a ball has been thrown into Lekerika's basket and that it has come out completely, and then the Biscayans have claimed that Urreisti has previously touched the ball with the basket.
Next Monday the second day of the semi-finals will be played: Barandika-Basque vs Johan-Gorka.
