The Basque Ball Federation presents the AMPO championship from Euskal Herria to the world
The new competition, created for the preparation of the Basque Ball Selection, will bring together about 30 festivals, from 8 May to 7 June, in different localities of the Basque Country.
The Basque Ball Federation of the Basque Country and the company AMPO presented this Thursday at the headquarters of AMPO in Idiazabalthe AMPO World Championship from Euskal Herria , which is part of the process of preparing the Basque Ball Selection for the World Championship to be held in Argentina in October 2026.
The AMPO Tournament from Euskal Herria to the world will have two main objectives: on the one hand, to give the selectors the opportunity to see and value the pelotaris in the context of real competition; on the other hand, to socialize, make visible and bring the Basque Ball Selection closer to the citizens.
The tournament will consist of seven specialties: Leather Palette, Short Shovel, Hand Single Men on the entire fronton, Hand Doubles Men, Hand Single Women in 4 and a half, Tip Basket Individual Men on the fronton 36 meters and Tip Basket Individual Women on the fronton 36 meters.
The competition starts this weekend and ends on June 7 in Elburg with the finals of the tip basket. Previously, on June 6, the tool finals will be played in Sopelana and on the morning of June 7, the finals of the manual modalities in Zumarraga. The championship will be played in different municipalities of Euskal Herria.
The Manual and Tip Basket modalities will consist of three days, semi-finals and finals of the league, while the Short Shovel and the Leather Palette will have a four-day league and a final, with a total of 30 festivals planned.
