Kutxabank Araski has won the derbi against IDK Euskotren (50-55) with a big final quarter
Kutxabank Araski has prevailed in the Basque derbi played this Sunday in San Sebastian after defeating the IDK Euskotren 50-55 on the 14th day of the Endesa Women's League.
It is at a difficult time that the two Basque teams have reached their first match of the year, as they have lost the last five games played , so they had to win in order for the Guipuzkoans to continue their options of playing the Cup and the Alaveses to get out of the gap in the descent posts.
Araski has put the start of the match on track with two partials of 0-6 and 0-5, taking advantage of the problems the locals had in scoring. However, he has had little joy, since the IDK has managed to put the batteries on and close the first quarter ahead with a partialof 10-0 (14-13).
Azu Muguruza's team has taken the lead in the game and has shown clear superiority . The triples have gone nine points ahead of the break (33-24).
Madelen Urieta has changed strategy and worked well. Araski has regained presence on the courtand the game has been balanced.
In the last quarter, the Alaveses have revived with a partial of 0-12 . The last minute of the match has been very equal, but the local team has paid for the mistakes at the end of the game and the derbi has been for Kutxabank Araski (50-55).
So Araski breathes, and IDK will have a hard time playing the Queen's Cup.
