Athletic has suffered a painful defeat to Seville in San Mamés in the debut of Edin Terzic (1-3)
Oso, Ejuk and Isaac have scored the goals of Seville, and Paredes has won the goals of the locals. Athletic has played with ten footballers since the tenth minute, since Yuri has been expelled by direct red and has failed in the first and third goals. The Athletic Club has lost 1-3 to Seville onthe second day of the EA Sports League 2026-2027, in its first match of the tournament, in San Mamés, on Saturday afternoon. Oso, Ejuk and Isaac Romero have scored the goals of Seville in the 15th, 50th and 57th minutes ,and Aitor Paredes has won the most at home in the 70th minute.
Edin Terzic led Athletic for the first time in an official match, and in the initial eleven, in the back, he placed Amitchell on the right; for the center of the field he chose Canales and the debutante Gerenabarrena; and in the attack, on the left, the German placed Berenguer.
In the tenth minute, the referee César Soto expelled Yuri by direct red card. The zarauztarra pushed Sierra, very close to the area, as the last man, and the Athletic stayed with ten. The play brought many doubts to Athletic; very soon after , in the 15th minute, Seville scored 0-1. Unai Simon failed to hit when he tried to give the ball to a partner.
Terzic placed Berenguer on the left side of the rear after the expulsion of Yuri. The Biscayan team, despite the obstacles it had had at the start of the match, tried to move the ball up. Canales, after half an hour, had the tie close and Iñaki Williams had a good opportunity in the 41st minute. Guruzeta, with a good volley shot.
Seville coach Luis García Plaza put Ejuke, Guillén and Isaac in the field for the second half. The decision of the former Alavés coach was very good: immediately, in the 50th minute, Ejuk, in a counter-attack, scored 0-2.
In the 56th minute, Isaac Romero scored 0-3. Athletic failed again in the back, as Amitchell failed to pull the ball out. After that move , Nico Williams, Maroan and Laporte went out onto the lawn. In the 70th minute, in a corner, Yeray hit Aitor Paredes very well, and the arrigorriagarra, on the second stick, got the 1-3.
Until the end, Terzic's men tried to score the second goal, to have a chance to score a point, but they couldn't, and Athletic was disappointed in the first match of the 2026-2027 season.
