The Tunisian Football Federation has decided to dismiss Sabri Lamouchi after beating Sweden 5-1 in the first day match of Group F in Monterrey, Mexico.
Lamouchi came into office in January 2026 to replace Sami Trabelsi's after being dismissed from the Africa Cup. Lamouchi has led the Carthage Eagles in five games with a single win (1-0 against Haiti), a draw and three defeats in five of those clashes.
At the press conference after the match against Sweden, the coach admitted that his team gavea bad image . "It's been a difficult, painful defeat. Starting the tournament with such a tough defeat is really hard," he said.
"We've made too many mistakes, and we can't do that. We've been putting obstaclesin our way, "he said.
Without official confirmation from the federation, media in the North African country have reported that Tunisian leaders met urgently at the team's hotel and unanimously decided to dismiss the trainer, who was not supported by some players.
His replacementfor the next two WorldCupgames could be Mondher Kebaier, who is still due to play five days later against Japan on Saturday, June 20, in Monterrey, and the Netherlands in Kansas City. Mondher is already in Monterrey as the technical director of the Tunisian Football Federation.
