Gennaro Gattuso resigned as Italy's selector
Coach Gennaro Gattuso has agreed with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) toterminatethe Italian selector contract there after the 'azzurra' failed to qualifyfor the third consecutive\u00A0 World Cup.
"With great regret, having failed to achieve the stated goal, I have closed my stage as a national team selector. Azzurra's T-shirt is the most precious asset of football, so it is appropriate to make future technical assessments from the outset. It has been an honour to lead the selection and to do so with a group of players who have shown commitment and devotion to the shirt," Gattuso said in a statement issued this Friday by the FIGC.
Gattuso was named successor to Luciano Spallettilast June and won six of the eight games he led. However, after being second in Group I, behind Norway, Italy had to play the rebound classification.
In semi-finals he beat Northern Ireland (2-0), but last Tuesday he was eliminated from the summer World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico after losing in thefinal to Bosnia and Herzegovina for 4-1 .
